Nothing even close to a utopian society will ever be realized until people learn to grow up and be mature. Unfortunately, the trend today, based solely on my own observations, seems to be a downward spiral of immaturity and pettiness.

A big part of that is the political correctness movement. No offense, but whoever first suggested that ALL opinions should be considered equally truthful and valid, should be ostracized from participating in society. It's impossible for everybody to be right all the time, or for every opinion to be valid. And people need to be mature about that. Instead, we feel privileged and entitled to our notions, confusing the right to have an opinion with the opinion that we are right, and pettiness ensues. The top news stories now all seem to involve who offended who, or what comment riled up which political or religious group. I'm sorry, but Elisha Cuthbert rolling her eyes at a sporting event is not in the least worthy of any mention in the media, least of all the amount of coverage it got. We have pushed it so far that nobody really listens to each other anymore, we all just look for particular words or wording in statements to pick apart, one-liners to take out of context and use to try to invalidate an otherwise legitimate claim. We're so thin-skinned now that nobody can handle disagreement, and everybody is always offended and/or gossipping about other people who are offended. Instead of teaching people that they might, in fact, be wrong from time to time, we are teaching them to become enraged at the barest suggestion that they might be wrong, and to blah blah blah that rage all over the news, internet, social media, and any other public forum they can find. And then society jumps to their defence and demands they receive an apology. We are becoming ever pettier. Ever more immature. Ever less able to handle any type of disagreement. We lack the means to settle legitimate differences amicably. In short, we're all to just pretend that everybody is right all the time, and keep quiet about any misgivings we have about that.

Until society accepts political correctness for what it is, utopia is unattainable, in theory or in practice.

instead of the wanting the world to be utopian or a better place to live, it would be much cooler if each of us tried to make ourself, our family and our friends cooler

support them when they need us, help them, not ignore them...i know it's tough cause we think 'oh you're thin skinned'

but if we're honest to them, we must be able to find a proper(gentle) way to tell our friends that 'boss, you are wrong'

have a nice day everyone...take care of yourself and your family and friends
Have a nice day

Slowly putting together a "replacement" forum at http://writerswriting.proboards.com.

It's still under construction, but come take a look.

We do not live in a perfect world now and we never did since the world began. Each of us is an individual and has been exposed to various situations in our life. Each of us will react to a same situation in a different way. Why just look at the various opinions in this forum. This is not to say that each of us in his/her own way is not right. According to the way we have experienced life is exactly how we will act and react to an identical situation. Utopia is a dream which we all strive for as an individual, but collectively it will never happen because we are all so different. Utopia is a figment of our imagination and each of us imagines it in a different way.

I don't think we would really be able to achieve a utopian society because, as humans, we're just not designed that way. I like jaus tail's viewpoint that if we make our own little part of the world as pleasant as possible, we have achieve a certain amount of success.

That said, I don't really think we live in a total dystopia either, there are just a few bad apple out there that want to spoil things for others. Again, that's human nature. The good vs. evil concept.

I vote for good. Something we can only appreciate more if we are confronted with evil, no matter how badly we prefer not to have to do so.

Peace to you all. :D

A Utopia is a paradox. If everything was perfect, there would be nothing to complain about, and where would be the fun in that.
