Any ideas?

Postby Deb E » Fri Mar 22, 2013 3:04 pm

Why would a 25 year old woman, content to live a boring life in a boring town, suddenly be willing/wanting to travel the world?

Sudden death of a friend/relative that shows your protagonist how short life truly is...
Dumped by a longtime love due to her 'boring' nature...
Devastating medical diagnosis that leaves her with only months to live...

Intriguing concept, naive inexperience set free in the big, wide world--so many possibilites! Have fun with it! :-)

All of the above plus:
Having a near death experience could be the catalyst.
Being forced out into the cruel world through divorce, loss of job.
Helping a dying family member/friend fulfill their bucket=list.

The town is leveled to make way for a freeway interchange. The town posts Internet ads to draw a hip new crowd and is flooded with yuppies and wine bars---oh wait, that's my hometown (and yes, we're thinking of leaving). The town finds out she's actually not that boring so they give her the boot.

Maybe she could meet someone from her hometown while travelling in Europe, and hear all kinds of things that make her realize her life at home was not so boring after all, true adventure awaits back home. Or, she sits around in cafes and cabarets and art museums and realizes how deeply, irretrievably boring most Europeans are, and can't wait to get back to Moosejaw, where things are really cooking.

She discovers that everything she has always thought or believed in is wrong. She decides to travel the world to discover the true meaning of her existence. Her first destination is based solely on a postcard she found in an old dust covered trunk in her mother's attic. On the postcard is a picture and a single word.
