Unable to disable Cortana in the latest Windows 10 upgrade.

Postby Dreaming Imrryr » Wed Sep 14, 2016 9:35 pm

So, when I upgraded to Windows 10, I had heard from various places around the Internet that it had some privacy issues and that one should disable the built in Windows 10 feature called "Cortana".

So I tinkered with Windows 10 until I found something that turned Cortana off.

But a recent upgrade acted like no other prior upgrade, I actually got the "Welcome. Please wait while Windows sets up your pc. Etc." screens, which I had not gotten in prior upgrades. So I assumed that this upgrade was something massive and intrusive enough to act like a "re-installation".

Did any of you guys get that too? :?:

But anyway, I thought "Oh well" and just tried to set up my pc again.

Then I found that I couldn't turn off Cortana in the latest Windows 10 upgrade. :o

The best that I was able to do was to keep Cortana from "assisting" me in the Microsoft Edge browser. :(

Does anyone know how to turn off Cortana?

NOTE: This describes editing the Windows Registry. You can ruin Windows 10 to the point of having to fully reinstall. But so far as I can determine, this is the only way.
Slowly putting together a "replacement" forum at http://writerswriting.proboards.com.

It's still under construction, but come take a look.

Thanks, but I guess I'll just have to make do with Cortana on.
