My last book was LITTLE BEE, by Chris Cleave. Before that I read OUT STEALING HORSES, by Per Petterson.

Both books are excellent.

Brothers, by Yu Hua.  I have fallen in love with these two boys!

I just read The Elements of Style by Strunk & White and enjoyed it very much.  I just tried to read The Elements of Grammar by Margaret Shertzer, but I couldn't do it!  I think it is more of a reference book than Style.  It talks about all kinds of basic things such as punctuation, pluralizing nouns, and etc.

 YARG.

If I ever forget whether to end a verb in -d or -ed I will look at the book.  Other than that . . . eh!  I was actually thinking it would talk about parts of speech that I forget, such as gerunds.  But I don't think it does.  I have a book SOMEWHERE that talks about those kinds of things.  I will just have to find it!

In the middle of Dennis Lehane's Shutter Island. So far so good. I read two of his other books; Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone. Both are truly great.

I'm reading John McGahern's memoir All Will Be Well. I'm enjoying it very well. I know the locale in Ireland where he grew up and so appreciate that local angle, but I also admire his lyrical turn of phrase.
