Postby TiffanyLuckey » Fri Oct 25, 2013 1:33 pm

Prompt: Write the opening sentence (25 words or fewer) to a story based on the photo found here: http://www.writersdigest.com/your-story ... r-story-52.

Thanks to everyone who voted in WD’s Your Story #52! Here are the results. The winning entries, in ranking order, are as follows:

1. Three sisters continued down the seemingly endless trail—unaware of the giant palm pressed against the glass above that stirred the swirling snow around them. (Jenny Maxey)

2. I’ve always hated the motivational posters in my therapist’s office, especially those stupid kids in the woods; how the hell’s that supposed to inspire me? (Jordan Villegas)

3. Sometimes you think you’ve lost everything, until you feel the tiny hands of your brother and sister and realize you actually have everything you need. (Antoinette Del Campo-O’Brien)

4. I was walking through the snow with two mysterious children—one of the past and one the future—wondering which would disappear first. (Pamela Walden Taylor)

5. As the snowfall thickened and the temperature plummeted toward zero, we headed out to find Santa—for he was going to pay for his shortcomings. (Curtis Walker)

6. It wasn’t until we reached the clearing that we discovered the man between us was not our father. (J.R. Simmang)

7. “Snow,” she whispered, mesmerized, not recognizing the ashes of our home as they drifted around us. (Crystal Kamm)

8. Walking into the snow-covered forest, she knew it was up to her to find the mysterious portal and reverse its strange effect on her parents. (Michelle Hoyord)

9. Jeremy guided Elaine and little Timothy homeward, careful not to track even a drop of blood from the scene of their latest horrific act. (Poet Mase)

10. The founding members of the Lollipop Guild began their journey along a snow-covered Yellow Brick Road, seeking answers that only one wizard could provide. (Mike Elnick)

Hi,
I am a little confused. When I see a post that says, for instance, #52 Finalists Winners and I click it to see who the winners are, are the authors names attached to the entries at all? Sorry, I am very new to this forum and I am not very familiar with how it operates. I mean, at first I thought: "Man, that TiffanyLucky" sure wins a lot!" because when I go in it says Your Story #52: Finalist Winners! and then underneath it says by TiffanyLucky... but that can't be right, right? Sorry, forgive me if I seem a bit dense. On the other hand, though, that's actually quite normal for me.

TiffanyLuckey is the Associate Editor of WD and posted the email. The winners' names are shown immediately after their entry.

I can see the names of who write the entries in the #52 contest (this was not a good "for instance"). But there are other stories/contests that are posted and the title is provided and underneath it says "by TiffanyLucky". I get it now that she is not the author. But, search though I may in the posted material, and I cannot find any other name that tells me who wrote what... i.e. "The Toss, "Clarence & Dean", "Flipped"... who wrote these?

This is the third time I've attempted to answer this question. Here's hoping this one works. Author's names are NOT revealed until each contest is over.
Hope this helps,
Elizabeth :D
