is copyright necessary?

Postby jaus tail » Tue May 14, 2013 3:29 am

I have finished my first novel and plan to self publish it, since the publishers have refused it. i checked Smashwords where it insisted on copyright. Do all self publishing routes require copyright?

Copyright is automatic. Better head here and read through the info: http://www.copyright.gov.

Smashwords does not insist that you copyright your own works before uploading.

The US Federal Copyright Office that pls linked to reports that there are certain advantages to *registering* copyright. But you have the copyright from the moment you create the work.
Slowly putting together a "replacement" forum at http://writerswriting.proboards.com.

It's still under construction, but come take a look.
