I assume this reply to my old post is directed to me.

I didn't pay for an assigned review. Even if exposure had increased a million-fold that was no guarantee that sales would increase, so I started a Facebook page instead. I keep in touch with more people that way, but it hasn't enhanced sales. I guess middle-grade sci-fi just isn't a popular genre.

How you distribute will affect your royalties for sure.
But in most cases, authors won't get very much no matter how they distribute.

The internet has made this a very long tailed phenomenon.
A few writers make a LOT, while some do 'okay', and the rest don't make minimum wage, with many having a net loss if they spent a lot to 'self' publish.
