POD and Certain Websites

Hi all,
Has anyone had experience with Bookbaby or some of the other similar websites that offer the customer the option for Print on Demand for your book but only after you've ordered--and paid for it--a certain minimum quantity of printed books yourself? On one hand they're a business and need to make income, on the other, it seems like an underhanded way of getting into your pocket. Holding your dreams hostage. On the third hand, it might be nice to have a few printed books on hand, but I may look into my local printer for that and save the $99 shipping fee.

But no matter what, I still want my customers to have the POD option along with the ebook. Do I have any options or I do I have to pay Bookbaby's ransom? I think Booktango and Lulu do the same thing.

Thanks!

You might look into CreateSpace, Amazon's POD arm. They do not charge a ransom fee for the service.

Thanks, pls. I've begun the process on Createspace but haven't come to the POD part yet. Good to know, thanks!
