You need to be more specific.

Are you writing fiction or nonfiction? Do you want help on the mechanics of writing, organizing your writing, or publishing? Do you have something you want to start writing, currently working on something, or have you finished something and don't know what to do next?

Start with something short, then add to it. Then add more. It could be a description of your pet. Add to what he's doing or thinking. Go from there. Make a short story about this, then edit it and read it out loud to see if you like it. If not, make changes.

This should be enough to get you started.

Strategy #1: Write.

That sounds facetious, but it's actually an important truth. A basketball player does basketball during practice. So, too, a football player. A pianist plays on the piano. A mathematician practices proofs and equations (depending on what specialty he or she is in).

You can get a thousand different bits of advice from 700 different people, but it all comes down to... a writer writes.

Strategy #2: Finish what you write.

Whether it's a piece of flash fiction, a short story, a novelette, a novella, or a novel--force yourself to finish the damn thing. Write THE END at the bottom of the last page. Then read it through and start editing.

Make a vow that you will never start a piece of writing without finishing it.
