I've always said, that, if my laptop was seized, my Google search history (or even just some of the bookmarks) could see me up on charges of murder

Any fool can post to Wkipedia. That's why it's not credible. I've posted there myself several times.

However, if an article does list primary sources, those are the most useful aspect of the site. Anything else - it's just hearsay, whether true or not.

The biggest problem with Wiki is that when you try to verify the info on other sites, it turns out they're actually just quoting Wiki. I've had to develop a habit of verifying the source's sources - very aggravating and time consuming.

You guys are gonna turn me into mike. :::PHBTPTBHT!::: (Official Bloom County spelling of a raspberry).

This sounds like just paying attention to me. Back when I was in High School, before all that Interwebs stuff, I was taught, "Just because someone wrote it in a book, don't make it true."

Always apply some "sniff test" to anything you read.

Oh yes - I always try to have at least 2-3 sources - but when you think you have that and then discover they're just quoting an unreliable one... On to the next site, and the next, and the next...

What really bugs me is that so many sites do this - as if Wiki were a "real" source instead of an open invite for people's opinions and agendas...
