Mike,

Steven James just so happens to teach classes on the subject, and he is a fabulous instructor. I know he does several week long writing retreats throughout the country, and he always teaches a day long class at ThrillerFest every year.

Do you have a story in mind? Have you started writing the story? Have you read at least 100 novels in the genre you wish to tackle? The answers to these questions are very important. No matter what how-to-book you read or how many, you can not finish a novel unless you start it.

The most important advice I can give: you learn by doing. :D

Clearly not. What you're looking for is for someone to do that for you.[/quote]

You haven't provided anything for which we MIGHT provide feedback.

You've called names and insulted the professionalism of virtually every person who responded to you.

You've called it inefficient, failed to pay attention to the responses you got, and deliberately misread (my opinion) the responses that didn't jibe with your preconceptions.

The proofs splattered all through this thread. Readers can (and will) decide for themselves who is lying.

Makes me wonder just how many people would have to disagree with you before you even consider that you might, maybe, possibly be mistaken.

@rob: mike is far too busy and important to actually READ everything we have to say. Besides, anything we have to say will by default be incorrect or not what he asked for, so it's much more efficient for him to dismiss our posts as worthless (or say that we have nothing to say).

Someone needs to contact these authors and tell them they're doing it ALL WRONG:

Anne McCaffrey, David Morrell, Dean Koontz, Diana Gabaldon, Donna Gillespie, G Benson, Gary D Schmidt, George RR Martin, Gillian Flynn, Ian Rankin, J.A. Jance, Jane Graves, Jayne Denker, John Le Carre, Lee Child, Margaret Atwood, Nora Roberts, Pierce Brown, Ray Bradbury, Robert Dugoni, Stephen King

They're bound to fail, poor mites...

You have not been paid to publish any fiction. You are no more an expert on fiction than someone who has written nothing.

You can say that again.
You ask me what I thought about
Before we were lovers.
The answer is easy.
Before I met you
I didn't have anything to think about.

Robert Dugoni and Steven James are great instructors and teach at Master CraftFest almost every year they are there at ThrillerFest. Plus they both hold writers retreats and teach at several other conferences. David Morrell is co-founder of ITW and the ThrillerFest conference and he also teaches at the conference and all over the country. He is a former college professor and a great motivational speaker. Lee Child, awesome British accent and all, always fills the classroom when he speaks because he's sold over 60 million novels. I've have personally heard several others on that list speak about the craft in various forms. All highly sought after speakers.
