pls's Reading Challenge

Postby pls » Thu Jul 13, 2017 2:26 pm

I can no longer access the 2017 Reading Challenge topic thread, so this will have to do.

THE WEED THAT STRINGS THE HANGMAN'S BAG - Alan Bradley - ***** - (week ending July 15)

This series continues to amaze me, as the latest installment is just as good as the first and all the rest. Eleven-year-old Flavia runs into a puppeteer in a broken-down Austin van, along with his female companion, and she begins to wonder why he has fled London and a lucrative television show for this part of the country. As it turns out, a former German prisoner-of-war has the answer.

Can't believe this could happen to a moderator!

That sounds like a good series you are reading. Must give it a try.
Read samples of my Martian series (by Dorothy Piper) and two romances (by Joni Havel) on Smashwords.
Hard copies of all are on Amazon.

Bradley's first book in this series is "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie". Start with that one. Oh, and did I mention that all but one of these novels are set in 1950 England?

No, you didn't. All the more reason to read this series. I'm off to Amazon right now. :)

I can't post in the reading challenge thread IF I quote someone else. I can fine if I don't quote.

Im gonna give your book a try since i finished my first book. I find mystery books easier to finish and read, if you read the sequels i bet it's good.

THE WAYWARD BUS - John Steinbeck - ***** (Week ending July 22)

After self-serving bickering at a roadside cafe, the owner, who also drives a bus between several Greyhound connections, takes off after heavy rainstorms. Several of the male passengers and driver are fixated on one blonde rider and vie unsuccessfully for her attention. When the bus reaches a bridge under siege from a surging river, the driver has to make a choice of driving over the bridge or taking a muddy, largely untraveled route and risk getting stuck.

Was wondering if any of you found a way to buy all series of any books at once (with a nice discount maybe)? Does amazon kindle give up deals like that?

I'm already reading the 1st one and I think I may just finish the entire series, its been great so far.

Piccoro, I was pleasantly surprised to be able to "check out" a bundle of four of the Bradley series via my local library and download them to my Kindle from Amazon for free. You might see if your library offers the same service.
