If you've ever seen pictures of koala bears, they're a carnivorous offshoot of those, that lurk in trees and "drop" down on unsuspecting passersby.

Sorry - this is probably harmless, but we don't allow offsite URL's unless they pertain directly to writing -pls.

Hmmm. Methinks dropbears are kin to the North American Sasquatch and the Loch Ness monster. Terrifying  creatures that are feared, revered, but never actually seen. He's 'aving us on. The Vegemite deterrent clued me in. :)

He's giving us one of those stories without any moral or educational depth, written purely for entertainment value, he speaks about on another thread (Conversation Question). Only it does have both moral and educational value.

Moral: Don't believe everything you hear.
Education: An interesting bit of Australian folklore.

Bwahahaha!

Been a while since I got someone with that one; it's an old Aussie tradition to tease foreigners with tall tales of drop bears and hoop snakes (which are snakes that bite their tails and roll towards you at high speed like a rolling hula hoop). Mind you, my wife once almost had me fooled with a story about Arctic fish that grow fur. Almost...

I know about the "Aussie tradition". Before the builders laid the pad for our new house (in Forrestfield, near Perth WA) they tried to tell us they could spray a section of the ubiquitous sand with something that would set the sand as hard as concrete, so no pad needed. The money 'saved' would of course have gone into their pockets for beer money. We had been forewarned by friends to expect some kind of tall story and decided that this was it. They must think all Poms are daft.
Read samples of my Martian series (by Dorothy Piper) and two romances (by Joni Havel) on Smashwords.
Hard copies of all are on Amazon.

That sounds more like an attempted rip off than the usual harmless Aussie larrikinism. Good to hear you didn't fall for that one.

I've been living in London for a while now, so I'm in the opposite situation - getting used to Poms and their wild drinking antics!
