Blasphemy question...

Postby JessicaLeigh » Mon Feb 06, 2006 12:23 pm

I apologize if this offends anyone. But...which one is proper?

He pays her salary for Christ's sake; she can't talk to him that way.

or...

He pays her salary for Christ sakes; she can't talk to him that way.

I belive it is the first one is correct. I hear people say both, but when it comes to blasphemy & profanity, grammar is rarely considered. :)

He pays her salary, for Christ's sake;

My fave:  "out where Christ lost his shoes"

What a great expression! Does it mean "in the middle of nowhere"?

Oh, and yes...I suppose without the comma it will appear as if the character is paying someone a salary for the "sake" of Christ, huh? On behalf of our savior, here is a paycheck, ma'am. HA! HA!
