It’s not about the extrinsic promotion that tends to help a blog grow over the long run. Rather, it’s the intrinsic quality of content and sense of community that the blogger brings. I repeat, intrinsic beats extrinsic every day of the week.
However, there is value in promoting your blog posts over social media and e-mail. Reaching out allows you to reach new readers in some cases, and remind regulars that you have new content consistently appearing on your blog.

How to Develop a Promotion Plan
First, you need to have a social presence. Jump on Facebook; join Twitter. Try out LinkedIn, Google+, and Pinterest. Give Instagram a try. Why not? But when you do, try connecting with people who may have an interest in your blog’s niche.
These people share your passion for your subject and will naturally be more inclined to like your posts and possibly share them with others. So yes, part of your promotion plan should be to share your posts on social networks.
Each new post is a new opportunity to share what you’re doing over in blog-land. Take advantage of that opportunity every time in every channel you have (but only once per post–don’t spam).
Second, provide blog readers an opportunity to sign up for automatic updates from your blog. Every day that you post, your blog should be sending these people an e-mail that contains either the entire post–or an excerpt with a link to the entire post.
Third, consider having a semi-regular e-mail newsletter. As you begin, maybe it ships once every two to three months. Then, you can get it down to monthly, every other week, and maybe eventually weekly.
There are other things you could do, but these are the simplest, most effective ways to get started. And really, more bloggers would find success if they focused on the simple and effective ways to find success. That frees them up to the important stuff–like focus on great blog content.
