Poetic Asides Round Up Request

Earlier this morning, I had a “duh!” moment related to the Poetic Asides community. I hope you can help me out.

As many of you know, the Poetic Asides readership and community brings together a wide range of poets at various points in their writing time lines. Some have been writing for years (if not decades); others started writing poetry because of poetry challenges on this site; and some have contacted me privately to let me know that they lurk in the shadows. All are welcome, but I just realized that I’ve been missing an opportunity to help our community help each other.

Many Poetic Asides readers have published poetry collections. Some put on poetry events. Others offer poetry publication opportunities. And there are other ways that the poets on PA Street are helping make the world a more poetic place.

If you are one such Poetic Asides reader, I want to hear from you. Send me an e-mail (robert.brewer@fwmedia.com) with the subject line: Poetic Asides Round Up

If you have poetry collections available, let me know. If you’ll be leading an upcoming poetry event, let me know (including any details on the event). If you’ll just be attending an upcoming poetry event, let me know (again, any details would be nice). If you offer poetry publication opportunities, share that. In fact, if you have any good poetic news, please share it with me.

I’m going to attempt to have semi-regular Poetic Asides Round Up posts that help us keep up with each other and hopefully provide poetic opportunities that we might not catch on our own.

NOTE: If you’ve contacted me about something in the past, please send information again using the subject line and e-mail address above. That way I don’t miss something obvious in my Round Up posts.

Thank you so much!

Hi all…firstly thanks for the compliment Barbara and …YIKES! Although I am an enthusiastic administrator….actually credit for creating group goes to Shannon Smith Lockard a relative newcomer to PA who thought it would be nice to keep in touch with FB "friends" from PA and began a small FB group under a different name. Long story short, my big mouth ( who me?) and involvement led to my becoming the front- line administrator. Shannon is busy with her young family, work and of course writing. The renamed group PA Friends is a closed group, now has just short of 50 poets who know each through FB and most importantly through poetry at PA…. Has been functioning as a little forum for pondering questions, giving congratulations,….
A "poetically context bound relaxed group" and mentioned over at PA.
Hmmm, actually was evolving toward a mini version of RLB’s idea!

Robert, I just sent you a bunch of stuff.

Is there a way for us to have some kind of a group blog or a discussion list or message board or something? Something to which we could each add, so that you won’t be stuck having to plow through all of our enthusiastic offerings to you?

Glad to hear of Pearl’s Facebook group; I think this is news to me.

Robert, great idea! I found out from Pearl who is running this Facebook group for PA people and she is doing a wonderful job!! Do you want the news here or should we send it to your email?

    You can email me at:

I will put it here too. One of our own poets, Salvatore Butacci is going to be on my Blog Talk Radio show, RRWL Tales from the Pages on Thursday, June 23rd at 3PM Central, 4PM EST. I don’t have the link yet, but I will send it soon.

Thank you for this opportunity and I think it’s going to help a lot of people. I get invited to a lot of poetry readings, but my real life keeps me from going. I will help in any way I can by publicizing it on my blog and show.

Dear Robert … Terrific synchronicity ! I have been trying to motivate folks over at PA Friends by trying to get poets to support each other’s writing…on a variety if ways for example by committing to purchase works or at least three works of poets that one " knows." The conversation has been going on fir two or three days. Poettic Asides with iits larger scope and outreach is a tremendous vehicle. There is no reason, especially in today’s world of self published works that poets must resign themselves to zero finances for work written…. A grassroots movement such as this can change the face of poetry. Good for you… Obviously I am supportive of any of your wonderful suggestions.

Any helpful poetic news is appreciated. Just send it my way, and I’ll make the judgment calls.

And I have a feeling I’ll have to tinker with the reporting dates. I’m not sure if this will be a weekly or monthly thing, though I’ll probably get a feel for it over this summer. 🙂

What about local community writing, feedback groups that meet regularly

Once again you extend yourself in the line of Poetry! Many thanks for all that you have done and are doing for the poets in the venue.

May I make a suggestion on giving deadlines for emails to be received prior to your release of the Round Up! In by the 25th of each month for the following 1st/2nd of next month release/publication/newsletter. This should make it a little more uniformed. date, time, place (city and state) what is happening and any contact: email, website, or phone number.
