New Agent Alert: Kate Folkers of Martin Literary Management

Reminder: New literary agents (with this spotlight featuring Kate Folkers of Martin Literary Management) are golden opportunities for new writers because each one is a literary agent who is likely building his or her client list.

About Kate
: Her 15 years of publishing experience include working for Farrar, Straus & Giroux, Harcourt Publishing, Abbeville Press and Harper. She’s worked in Marketing, Sales, and Special Sales — doing everything from being a sales rep to handling national accounts like Borders and Barnes & Noble to marketing literary bestsellers to consumers. She is now an agent at Martin Literary Management.

She is seeking: mysteries/thrillers, historical fiction, women’s fiction, entertaining chick lit and urban fantasy. She enjoys humorous fiction when it’s well done. She is NOT interested in writers trying to capitalize on trends.

How to contact: Kate[at]MartinLiteraryManagement[dot]com. Responds in 2-4 weeks. For Fiction: Please send a query letter about what makes your book unique, a 2-3 page plot synopsis, a brief bio (including a description of your publishing history, if you have one), and the first 30-50 pages of your manuscript. Paste pages into the e-mail doc/ “Let me know in your query letter if I am reading your work exclusively, in which case, I shall give it priority. If the book has been self-published or previously published, please let me know all the details – publisher, date, etc.”
