Is it safe to assume this can be from any genre as long as it his the correct demographic?
Yes, that is a safe assumption.
If a story both qualifies for fantasy and young adult can you submit it for both?
Hi Jameson,
Yes you can. We look forward to reading them both.
Thanks, I apologize, I just realized I posted that question twice.
My story contains a mild amount of adult language. Will this disqualify my entry?
Stonewall,
No, it will not disqualify your entry. Good luck.
Just curious, but when we do this, does it have to be a complete story, or just a few chapters or what? And also, can it be any genre?
The goal is a story that comes to a conclusion in 4,000 words or fewer.
If my story is for children maybe under 10, can i still enter it into the Young Adult competition?
If a Young Adult story is entered into another contest can i also enter it into here??
Yes, your story for children under 10 may be entered into this competition.
Your story, however, cannot be accepted in another competition at the time of submission.
Good luck.
I’m confused. After clicking on the online entry form is mentions to review the guidelines here: http://www.writersdigest.com/competitions/short-story. This page lists different prizes and the guidelines say the story must be 1,500 words or fewer, but this is nowhere mentioned on this page or on the entry from. What is the word count requirement? Is this competition for short stories only?
Never mind. I found it in the Official Rules link – 4,000 words.
I am also curious if the manuscript must be a complete story or say, the first 3 chapters?
The goal is to have a story come to a conclusion in 4,000 words or fewer.
do we have to live in the USA to participate?
When do we pay the $20 entrance fee? After we have submitted our entry?
Can the story have graphic imagery in it? I.e. blood/gore and violence? And if I decide to throw in some deeper meanings, should I write somewhere that the story contains them or leave it for judges to figure out for themselves?
Could it be a memoir?
Are there any competitions for novels?
I would love to read the submissions. I’m launching a new web app that’s an eReader for teen girls. Is there any way I could read the finalists (or all of the stories)?
Anyone who would like to send their story to me for a chance at ePublication (and $250 – which is what we’ll pay you), please submit at: http://writers.flyl.it/
Do I have to be from the States to enter the competition?
Hello, I wrote a 64,500 young adult novel fantansy. Is the word count eligible to enter contest? I don’t see any word requirements. Please help. Thanks
