There are submission guidelines posted for your Sci-Fi contest regarding margins, word count, spacing, etc., but no submission guidelines posted for this contest and others. Should I assume the submission guidelines are the same for all contests?

    • tdebord says:

      Hi Katherine,

Yes, all submission guidelines are the same for these competitions. We will add them to all of them.

Good luck and we look forward to reading your story.

  2. Katherine says:

Thank you so much for your reply. I appreciate your time.

  3. Angie says:

This is my first time doing this, sorry if the answer is posted somewhere else, but are there any specific requirements for the horror story? Time? Place? Characters? Anything like that? Or is it just anything horror?

  4. fwc3iii says:

Are the past winning stories in the Horror category available to read on-line? I would like to review to obtain a feel for the general tone of the submissions. Thanks!!

  5. kingkrazy says:

Not sure if I am reading this correctly regarding the word count. I clicked on the link and I was directed to the short short contest where the word count is 1,500 words. Is that the same for this contest?

    • wishstarworld says:

Thank goodness the contest is extended. And I was checking into the word count as well. On their link on the main listing page under “Official Rules” (on this page) says 4,000 words. On the link you get on the registration page says 1,500 for a short short story. On the other short story contest for Young Adult someone asked the same question and the moderator answered 4,000 or less is the requirement.

  6. The_Will says:

It says unpublished, that just means in magazines right? If we post on the WD forum in the critique section is the work still valid as a submission?

  7. Nikki says:

I’m sorry, but I’m unclear as to word count or whether this is to be a stand-alone short story or part of a larger piece. Could someone direct me to the submission guidelines? Thanks.

  8. Jessie says:

I am working on a story that is based on a true story. Can I leave out the based on a true story line, or do I include something?

  9. jeff says:

I have just made a rookie error and submitted my story without double spacing. I am happy to resubmit the exact same story with double spacing and pay another entry fee, I will do this now please disregard the first story, and take the second one (it is called Vacation 101.) Thank You.

  10. leogodin217 says:

Can we get a definitive answer on word count from someone at Writers Digest? The story I want to submit is about 3500 words, and I don’t want to waste time sending it to a contest that will not accept it.

  11. freeb says:

Any clarity on word count and format?

  12. ARBraun says:

When I filled out the form and sent my story in, when it came time to pay, I wanted to pay with a debit card. It said “credit card” or “check,” and I clicked “check” because I thought it meant pay with a checking account. Now I see it meant that I’m supposed to mail my check in. Well, it’s the 18th, and I’m concerned it won’t get there in time. Is there a way to go back into the system and change it to “credit card” so I can pay with my bank debit card?

  13. FanGirl07 says:

Just a question about the deadline. For your short story contest it says that an entry can be submitted up till 11:59 the day of the deadline. Is that the same for this contest as well? Could I submit my entry on Nov 1 before midnight?

  14. ARBraun says:

Never mind. I sent in a money order.
